It was reported recently that Starbucks will NOT accept any of the 4 Billion disposable paper cups it sells each year for recycling even though many of their stores are stocked with ‘recycling’ bins.  AND, you most likely will not find any city recycling program that will accept these paper cups.

Why not?! 

Sadly, it’s because traditional ‘to-go’ disposable paper cups are lined with plastic to keep them from leaking and that plastic needs to be removed before the cups can be transformed into new paper.  (Check earth911.com to see if a recycler near you can help).

This means that most of those cozy, hand warming cups that we buy while on the go will NOT be recycled!  That’s 4 Billion paper cups per year from Starbucks alone in case you missed it.
